Carve out 10 minutes for this. Jesus Christ.

“Jungleland” from the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ 1978.

Kate Landau just posted this on Facebook. I had a video from 1980 up earlier but this one is hair-raising.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is rock n’ roll.

Little Lion Man by Set Sail
originally Mumford & Sons

I saw this band busking on the street in May, and bought their EP after 10 minutes. I don’t particularly like Mumford & Sons, but loved this cover.

Also see: Set Sail serenade Virgin passengers on their way to Hong Kong with Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.” (AOL Travel):

That drummer is bad-ass.

This Is Funny, You Should Watch It of the Day: Stand-up comedian Dara Ó Briain does his hilarious video games bit on the Beeb’s Live at the Apollo.

Money: “I love video games for this reason over all other art forms; they do a thing which no other art form does: You cannot be bad at watching a movie; you cannot be bad at listening to an album; but you can be bad at playing a video game, and the video game will punish you, and deny you access to the rest of the video game.”

This is hilarious, especially the Metal Gear Solid bit.

The National - England

My love for The National is almost reaching obsessive at the moment. It started when I had to compile a top 10 list of albums for 2010 and went through all my favourite albums of this year and then just listened to High Violet loads and then worked my way backwards to The National.

SO GOOD.

Oh, this is excellent.

November 29th, 2001 - Nine years ago today, George Harrison died of lung cancer at the age of 58.  To commemorate his life and the music that he gave us, please enjoy this incredible rendition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps from 1971’s concert for Bangladesh.

Stop What You’re Doing And Listen To This Acoustic Cover Of “Everlong” of the Day: Adorable brother and sister duo Dylan and Lauren spotted an “open mic” sign outside the OxJam tent at Electric Picnic 2010, and stormed in to ask for a slot.

I sense great things in store for these two.

[fark.]

Um, awesome.

This Is Awesome, You Should Watch It of the Day: Rick Derringer, Joe Walsh, and Sir Paul McCartney join birthday boy Ringo Starr on stage at NYC’s legendary Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the Beatles skin-slapper’s 70th candle with a rousing rendition of the classic White Album track “Birthday.”

I’ve been thinking of a way to say thank you for making Battle Studies such a huge success out of the gate… I’ve also been thinking of a way to use tumblr as a means of posting some more substantial stuff… So here’s a very raw, live solo version of “Edge of Desire” I just recorded in my apartment as a way to show my gratitude to you all for extending my time in this amazing career you’ve helped me build.

I think if you were kind enough to spent the 13 bucks, you should get some free music for the next good while.

So here it is. A song about late night longing recorded at 3am. iPhone dinging in the background and all…(that’s how I knew the take was going to be worth sticking with, as the best takes always get interrupted.)

Thank you.

More to come…

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, 2004: “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”

In 2004, George Harrison was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a tribute, a cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” was played by Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Dhani Harrison. Prince was inducted alongside Harrison that year, and he stole the show — yes, from those musicians — with a mind-blowing guitar solo that I just can’t get enough of. I think I’ve watched this clip ten times in the past hour.

As Harmonix’s Eric Pope said on Twitter, “In case you didn’t know why Prince is the most badass motherfucker on the planet- BEHOLD!”
